About me

IT student at IMS Basel. Apprentice fullstack dev. I write small projects so I can learn faster.

01 About

Hello! I'm Loïc, an IT student at IMS Basel with a passion for technology and software development.

On this page, I will tell you a bit more about myself as a student in Information Technology: what I'm learning, what I do beyond the keyboard, and where I'm headed next.

02 My background

I still remember the moment I made an Arduino do what I asked. That was when I knew IT was my way forward. From there I joined two IT clubs at school. One mostly about using software, the other about programming, starting with Tiger Jython and ending with an unfinished Unity game in C#.

The club only lasted a year, but the spark stuck. In my last semester I heard about IMS Basel and applied immediately. The program turned out more theoretical than I expected, so I became more self-directed and started building projects in my spare time to get the hands-on practice I was craving.

03 What I'm learning

Three years of theory-focused IT education gave me a solid foundation: algorithms, software design, and a sweep through HTML, CSS, JS, SQL, NoSQL, Python, Java, PHP and now C#.

Right now I'm leaning hard into web development with JavaScript and its ecosystem, while keeping a Java project going on the side. Most recently my school launched a C# e-commerce project, which has been great hands-on practice.

04 Beyond the code

I sing in a school choir, train volleyball at a local club, and visit theme parks whenever I can. Europa-Park most of all. It's the biggest in Germany and easily one of the best in the world.

My main hobby next to programming is almost the opposite. I've been part of the local scouts since 2015, and a leader for the past three years. I'm also the IT-dude there, and I co-host a monthly radio show for the regional scouts organisation.

05 What's next

I want to keep going deeper into web development and pick up new frameworks; cyber security is on my list too. Long term: finish my bachelor, maybe a master, and find a company where I can contribute to real, meaningful projects while still learning every day.
